Fantasy and science fiction artist Frank Frazetta died yesterday. He will forever be remembered for his iconic style. I remember stumbling upon Frazetta when I first got into comic books which is when he became a quick favorite along with Boris Vallejo for their fine arts. You will be missed.
For the release of Super Street Fighter 4, Capcom asked some well known artist including Futura, Dalek and Grotesk for their take on the advertisements. Pretty sick combo(s).
Leading to the premier of the documentary, “Exit Through The Gift Shop”, the infamous Banksy hit L.A.
“Exit Through the Gift Shop, the first film by renowned graffiti artist Banksy, became the hottest ticket at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival where it made its world debut. Banksy is a graffiti artist with a global reputation whose work can be seen on walls from post—hurricane New Orleans to the separation barrier on the Palestinian West Bank. Fiercely guarding his anonymity to avoid prosecution, Banksy has so far resisted all attempts to be captured on film. Exit Through the Gift Shop tells the incredible true story of how an eccentric French shop keeper turned documentary maker attempted to locate and befriend Banksy, only to have the artist turn the camera back on its owner with spectacular results. The film contains exclusive footage of Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Invader and many of the worlds most infamous graffiti artists at work, on walls and in interview. As Banksy describes it, Its basically the story of how one man set out to film the un—filmable. And failed” – banksyfilm
Opens in cinemas across the United States beginning April 16th. Check www.banksyfilm.com for theaters and showtimes.
The League of Extraordinary Dancer, or better known as “The LXD”, is a dance group put together by John Chu, director of the Step Up movies. It includes some amazing dancers of all genres including Madd Chadd, Cloud, J Smoov and Kid David. They have been making moves recently, performing at the Oscars earlier this month and at TED conference along with their buzz on YouTube. Truly inspiring and moving.
Check them and their performances out at www.thelxd.com for high resolution versions of the videos. The LXD will also be featured in Chu’s newest release, Step Up 3D, coming to theaters soon.
Work from Chris Sanders, ‘former artist for Disney and the writer, director and art director for Lilo and Stitch as well as the director of How to Train Your Dragon.”
I know it’s been a while since the last blog post but hey, life happens. It’s been hectic the past days. I’ve been to Vegas and back twice in the past two weeks for MAGIC and to meet up with the SICKS Degrees Fam to plan for the future in the midst of moving our headquarters (which is still in the process). Pictures speak louder than words so here goes some of what we’ve been doing recently…
If you caught the NBA All-Star game this past weekend, you might have caught SICKS Degrees Fam Josh Vietti playing violin in the opening video, narrated by none other than Common. So sick. Check it out…
Josh is one good dude and super talented. He has a lot of big stuff in the works. Watch out for him: www.joshvietti.com
